Step inside history this fall as we celebrate Oktoberfest at Detroit’s legendary Dakota Inn Rathskeller. Sunday, September 28th from 2p-6p

Raise a stein with us as we take over Detroit’s historic beer hall for an afternoon of queer joy and Bavarian cheer! Enjoy hearty German eats and beer (full bar available), belt out songs with our piano sing-along, and dance outside with a DJ set from SamuelKO. Prost to the season—and don’t be surprised if you hear a little Cocktoberfest flavor in the mix 😉.

Step inside history this fall as we celebrate Oktoberfest at Detroit’s legendary Dakota Inn Rathskeller.

Founded in 1933, the Dakota Inn has been a fixture in Detroit for more than 90 years — one of the last true German beer halls left in America. Generations of Detroiters have gathered in this historic Rathskeller to raise steins, sing along to the piano, and enjoy hearty Bavarian fare. From the moment you step through the doors, you’re surrounded by old-world charm and tradition that can’t be replicated anywhere else in the city.

Today, the Dakota Inn is entering a new chapter under the stewardship of the team behind iconic Detroit institutions like The Schvitz and Dutch Girl Donuts. With a deep respect for history and community, the new owners are breathing new life into the Rathskeller while preserving the character that has made it beloved for nearly a century.

Of course, no Oktoberfest would be complete without a nod to its origins: the festival began in 1810 in Munich, Germany, as a royal wedding celebration and has grown into the world’s largest folk festival. For centuries, it’s been about more than just beer — it’s a time to gather, sing, and celebrate together.

Our Detroit celebration carries that same spirit:
🎹 Live piano sing-alongs featuring a mix of traditional German tunes and the modern songs we all love to belt out.
🎧 DJ set by SamuelKO outdoors, bringing a fresh queer energy to the beer hall vibe.
🍺 Beer and German food available for purchase — come hungry, come thirsty.

Oktoberfest at Dakota Inn is for everyone, but especially for our queer community who love a reason to dress up, raise a glass, and sing out loud. Whether you call it Oktoberfest or cheekily call it Cocktoberfest, it’s going to be an afternoon of Bavarian cheer and Detroit pride.
